1.  Analogue dial-up

  • Requirements:
    Standard 56k internal or external modem (R300 - R400)
    Dial up account with an ISP (R85 - R120)
    Telephone connection (Monthly cost are determined by the time you spend online)
  • Pro's
    Cheap
    Easy to set up
  • Con's
    Relatively slow if more than one person should need to access the internet.
    Telephone bill at the end of the month could be a surprise
    One or two email addresses

2.  Digital dial-up

  • Requirements:
    ISDN internal or external modem (R1000 - R1400)
    Dial up account with an ISP (R150 - R250)
    Telephone connection (Monthly cost are determined by the time you spend online)
  • Pro's
    Cheap
    Easy to set up
  • Con's
    Telephone bill at the end of the month could be a surprise
    One or two email addresses

3.  ANTU Lease line

  • Requirements:
    Analogue Lease line external modem (R2500 - R3500)
    Account with an ISP (R1250 - R1950)
    Firewall (Client could supply old PC)
    Proxy server (Client could supply old PC)
    Mail server (Client could supply old PC)
  • Pro's
    Fixed cost per month (No extra telephone costs)
    Budgeting 
    Permanent connection
    Unlimited email accounts
    A number of people could browse the net simultaneously
    Cost saver (studies has proven on the long run that this option is the cheapest)
  • Con's
    Setup cost's (R10 000 - R12 000 once off)
    Must be done by professional ISP

4.  Digital Lease line

  • Requirements:
    Digital Lease line external modem or router (R4500 - R6500)
    Account with an ISP (R2500 - R5000)
    Firewall (Client could supply old PC)
    Proxy server (Client could supply old PC)
    Mail server (Client could supply old PC)

    Fixed cost per month (No extra telephone costs)
